Formating Numbers To Speak With Tts

We currently have a script that retrives a number from a database formatted as 1234.34

 

Since we want the number to be read by the TTS Engine, how to you supply formatting to tell the Play module to read the above as currency [ One Thousand and Thirty Four dollars and Thirty Four Cents ]?

Each TTS engine is a bit different. You will need to consult your TTS engines's documentation to see what formatting tags can be used.

 

VoiceGuide's Say Number module can be used to say the decimal number as currency as well.

Is it possible to use the SAPI XML based 'tags' to control the way that Voiceguide reads the text? Inserting it into the Play module doesn't seem to work

The TTS text specified is passed to the TTS engine without any modifications. VoiceGuide does not interpret the TTS text itself.
